REPORT FOR THE MONTH OF JANUARY 2021

The month of January, which begins the new year 2021, was used for implimentation of activities and the monitoring of our projects in Côte d'Ivoire. This allows us to always have a look at what we have done and what we are doing now, because for us the results of our projects allow us to plan for the future in our community development actions.

The youth reintegration project carried out with the financial support of MOFA and the technical support of ICA-Japan continues to produce satisfactory results in Agroforestry and livestock. Thus, the harvest of the palm trees has started in the villages of Mûre, Boka-oho, Aboudé Boua-Vincent, Niamanzra1 and N’gorankro. For the orange trees and guava trees it is N’gorankro and Dèoboguié which are now in production to the delight of the beneficiaries.

Started last December, the construction of the henhouse is being finished. For this week, the workers are putting the nets and making the partitions in the building. The arrival of the chickens will be early next week. This relocation of chickens will allow us to better monitor the activity of the breeding.

The bagging of the mushroom seeds went well and we are around 1300 bags for this second phase of the mushroom cultivation which we hope will produce at least 6 to 7 kg. The sale of this production will for a time help ICA-CI to take charge of its daily operations.

The  Sainte Sato Preschool Education Center continues to make itself known through the students who attend this establishment. Parents are very happy that ICA-CI has opened this preschool in the village of Kouadiokonankro. Also the children who used to be very shy and cried a lot have become very happy and participate well in the games and exercises which are given to them by the preschool educators.

The Village Saving and Loan Association (VSLA) project, which ended on September 30, 2020, enabled us to train 200 people in VSLA methodologies in four villages in the Agneby-Tiassa region. This methodology, which consisted in teaching the villagers who participated in the various trainings, were able to have the culture of savings and also of credit. With the grant from the World Bank, 103 out of the 200 have started to carry out Income Generating Activities (IGA) in different areas of activity (Livestock, Trade, Service, and Processing).

UNITED STATES:

ICA USA – February 2021

At the Problem Solving Unit on the Global Research Network last November, it was recommended that there be a GLOBAL CALENDAR created, making visible the work of ICAs and colleagues globally. Comments were made about how ICA life-giving methods are relevant today, but invisible to many, and needing to be revised and made more available.  We discussed how many methods that have been created and tested over time help people reflect on their lives and have conversations and studies that move them to act.

In response to these comments, a Global Calendar is being piloted March 1 with four color-coded types of offerings:

  • Maroon:  Book studies and conversations on talks, movies, podcasts, YouTube presentations
  • Green:  Conversations that share results, allow dialogue on significant topics, and result in new perspectives and actions.
  • Gold:  Training and methods creation and testing
  • Blue:  Global, national and local gatherings that are available online – or in person.

To see the beta-version of the calendar, go to www.icaglobalarchives.org and click on Events at the top of the page to see what is posted to date. Since the calendar has been generated in Chicago, it currently has an emphasis on United States postings. However, YOU are being asked to

  •  add to these events,
  •  encourage others to add also, and
  •  give feedback on the calendar

Email  2021icacalendar@gmail.com  with you posting, questions or suggestions and within 48 hours you should receive a response and/or posting of your suggestion.
