BANGLADESH:

Our associate member, ASM Saifullah, having returned from his overseas study, joined the ICA training taskforce for organizing regular ToP faculty training as a convener, and will head our environment wing. 

Following his one week August 9-13 Community Development Intensive course at ICA Associates in Toronto, Canada, Aziz talked to Bangladeshi colleagues about manual translation in Bangla and offering future courses in community development in Bangladesh. 

Duncan from ICA Associates Canada had a half day session on August 13th with the ICAB team where we learned about the difference between facilitation and training, ICA methods of facilitation, and how to develop relationships with clients. 

The 4th interview for the terrorism study was completed by Zakiul and Jahangir with Dr. Sultana Kamal, Executive Director, Ain o Salish Kendra and former adviser of the Caretaker Government of Bangladesh.

ICA International:

Last week Michael returned from Ghana and began to work on follow-up activities related to the Major Groups Initiative (MGI). The workshop, which was held July 26-30 in Accra, received much positive feedback from delegates. Achievements of the workshop included: establishing policy recommendations that will be presented by the Government of Ghana at the UNFF9 in January 2011; developing plans for the United Nations International Year of Forests in 2011; and discussing methods for improving the effectiveness and participation of Major Groups within the UNFF process. Delegates from over 40 countries participated in the event, including representatives of ICA Ghana, ICA Togo and ICA Benin. While in West Africa Michael also had the opportunity to visit with Yawo Gator Adufu at ICA Togo. Michael and Adufu discussed opportunities for collaboration between ICA International and ICA Togo on future projects.

In Montreal, this past weekend saw the 9th World Assembly of CIVICUS, an international alliance of 1000 civil society organizations from around the world. From the 20th to the 23rd of August, around 600 delegates from over 80 countries came together at the Palais des congrès to discuss what solutions civil society can propose regarding contemporary socio-economic and environmental issues.
