Issues: analysis and strategic action planning workshops on coastal and marine
environment on Kangaroo Island, South Australia.
I've gathered together about
25 key community stakeholders, including several expert local marine and coastal
ecologists to run an assessment, analysis, prioritisation and action planning -
for 1 and 3 year-community and some -government workplans - of environmental
management issues affecting the unique and at-risk coastal environment of this
Galapagos-of-the-South. Ongoing workshop process will probably run over 12
months, and expand to related issues of concern. Just about to commence detailed
Action Planning. Earlier workshops included map and data-base development, using
Workshop and ORID methodology.

Gloria Santos, Pedro Aburto, Ken Hamje and Kaoru Ito from ICA-Japan spent the
week 120 Km south of Lima giving earthquake aid to over 600 families and about
50 community kitchens.
To picture the situation, just look around your home
right now and imagine that all is crushed under rubble -- in just 2 minutes.
The area is in near chaos, and yet the cleanup is in process and life goes on.
We saw many families sleeping in the streets and were able to give them some
plastic to cover their sleeping area. We were able to provide a 50 Kilo sack of
lentels to the kitchens and water barrels and heavy blankets to the families --
all through emergency aid money from Japan.
In the midst of it all a proposal
was prepared for the next phase of reconstruction which could start around 15
Sept. It was a wonderfully human experience to be there with these people in
need who so much appreciated the help. In closing at each location we had the
people shout aligato to say thank you in Japanese -- followed by much
laughter and colleagiality. Unforgettable.
