Last weekend some 30 members of ICAA held their bi-annual gathering on the banks
of the Brisbane River. Over-looking this beautiful river, shimmering in the
early morning sun-light, we were led in a powerful 'Welcome to Country' by
Yaggara mob elder, Sam Watson of Uni of Queensland. This set the context for a
weekend of turning ripples into waves of ecological and socially responsible
sustainability.
The Sustainable Community Fair, featured stalls including
eco-mulch mats, energy rating systems, sustainable housing, the Sustainability
Street Project, ICAA Facilitative Leadership Program, Public Engagement
Initiative, Indigenous and International Partnerships, as well as sharing all
sorts of wonderful things individuals were doing to be sustainable.
The fair was
complimented by 3 presentations, -a sustainable pole home -retreat centre built
in the mountains by ICAA colleagues, the Isbister family, where one of the
highlights was old galvanized iron used as the feature walls, The Universarium
World Travelling Fair, presented by Annette Grewal of ICA Canada, Sustainable
Energy- Myths and Realities with Trevor Burrill from Uni of Queensland. This
total emersion was followed by a great celebration.
Saturday's activities
provided the backdrop for canoeing down the river on the Sunday morning, a
workshop on Everyone can Win, by colleague Karen Newkirk, and then moving into
the hard work on Sunday and Monday, of taking ICAA to the next level of planning
in its program areas, to achieve its purpose of 'catalysing new thinking and
practice in individuals and organisations toward an authentically sustainable
society'.
Congratualtions to our Brisbane colleagues for another great
'landmark' spirit event! You are invited to our next gathering which will be in
Auckland , New Zealand, in mid-January, 2008.From Jeanette, Brian, Rhonda, John

PERU:
Location: Lima
This week the whole team facilitated a large ToP event for the vegetable
wholesalers association which is responsible for receiving and delivering all
vegetables to the entire Lima metro area of over 8 million people. The
wholesalers have been crowded into the same 2 hectare area for over 35 years,
with near impossible work situations, so all 744 of them are now organizing
themselves for action. The initial event was a huge success and there will now
be a series of strategy planning events with each of the 10 product Guilds to
get them into action. This is nearly the same work that the ICA did over 20
years ago to assist the Villa El Salvador Industrial Guilds to organize their
new 288 Hectare industrial park, which now houses over 1,000 industries,
employing over 20,000 people. The ToP methods accomplish serious work!

Lambert and Sarah at the UN headquarters in Geneva |
In Berne and Geneva, Lambert and Sarah met with potential 2008 conference donors and partners institutions. In Brussels, they also packed up much of the ICAI archive to be sent to Montreal.
In Montreal, we are happy to report that the brunt work was completed on the 2005-2006 audits. We look forward to producing final results in the coming weeks, after maneuvering work travels and vacation season, for all to see. Response from the 2006 Annual Reports has been extremely positive, and the auditing process is an important part of ensuring accountability to all our members and supporters.
With Sarah and Lambert away, two new staff members Sarah Farina and Michael Watson have had lots of time to work on getting acquainted with the rich membership and history of ICAI. Through a lot of reading and international phone calls, they’ve done a great job at orienting themselves in the organization.
